A SILK BRIDAL SCARF FOR BETH
July 10, 2026MARYKE TROUSSEAU CAME INTO BEING
How could I resist, as a wedding designer, to add something into my mix that touches on ancient tradition with a modern day heart. Even in Biblical times it was tradition for a bride to prepare for her up-coming wedding day, new home and chapter as a wife, by collecting Trousseau. This consisted mostly of household linens such a bedding, quilts, table linens, rugs, jewellery, clothing and of course her wedding garments.
These items were often hand sewn by the bride herself, her mother and other nearest and dearest women in her life. This holds such a beautiful picture of femininity to me, and it is my hope that these linen towels will add that special something towards this beautiful new chapter in your life. That you will remember how special your wedding dress journey was every time you use it. Perhaps that it will even spark something beyond that, and that you will return for a few items in anticipation of the arrival of your little ones, when your time comes.
This linen makes amazing swaddling blankets, which I personalize with hand embroidered accents on request.
THE TROUSSEAU GIFT WRAP
As with everything I do, I have poured much of my heart and soul into this. From hand sketching the flax flowers and designing the gift wrap myself (I am in the process of learning surface pattern design so that I can create my own fabric prints), to a thoughtfully designed logo. It’s a gift from my heart to yours. May you enjoy your linen hand towel as much as I enjoy mine.
100% PURE LINEN TOWELS
As a designer with a love for all things authentic and pure (well, as pure as we are able to find at this moment in time), I am head over heels in love with linen. Linen is an ancient fabric that dates back to nearly the beginning of time, as rich in history as it is rich in texture. It is also one of the most prominent fabrics mentioned in ancient religious texts and were even used as currency in ancient times.
To me personally, linen embodies simple elegance, quality and comfort. Linen speaks a language of its own and adds an air of earth meets luxury. Although my vision for my Trousseau is big, it starts with humble beginnings.
Living in Hilton, KZN, with its moist & damp climate, I immediately fell in love my linen towels I have sewn just over a year ago. These thin, sturdy linen towels dry quickly and rarely smell musty, since linen is inherently antimicrobial. It also absorbs up to 30% in its own weight in moisture, which makes it ideal for towels.
If you prefer soft, fluffy towels, then linen may not be your first choice. But if you are looking for lighter laundry loads, towels that rarely smell and just an overall feel of goodness, then I highly recommend you try a linen towel.
QUALITY
The crisp ‘hand’ of these towels will leave your skin feeling clean, polished and even rejuvenated.
Not all linens are created equal, and I searched high and low for 100% European flax certified linen, as the quality just does not compare to other counterparts.
Linen is a resilient fibre, and any investment you make in quality 100% pure linen products, will far outlast other products or garments, which serves as much of the inspiration behind my Trousseau collection.
Feel free to reach out and contact me for other 100% pure linen products such as bath towels, bath mats, baby receiving blankets, summer dresses and much more; made-to-order.
PRODUCT INFO
Care:
Machine wash with a small amount of gentle detergent. If you can dry outside it is advisable to dry out of direct sunlight, but to be honest, I dry mine on my washing line with all my other clothing. Sunlight does fade the colours, but as my linen products are in their natural ‘colour’, it shouldn’t fade.
Tumble dry on hot or medium, and remove from the dryer while still slightly damp so wrinkles do not set and the fibres don’t get damaged. Shake the fabric out flat and smooth it with your hands.
Material:
220gsm 100% Pure linen, woven from 100% European Flax (certified by the supplier).
Stitched with utmost love & care, with mitred edges & a hanging loop in the corner.
